Joshua HarrisLead Pastor
Joshua’s role is to provide vision and direction for the church and pastoral team by throwing himself into preaching, prayer, leadership and loving people. One of his main gifts is making truth from the Bible clear, relevant and easy-to-understand as the primary teacher on Sunday mornings.
Joshua grew up outside Portland, Ore., the oldest of seven kids. Raised in a Christian home, he came to know Christ as a teenager. At age 17, God began to stir in him a desire to call his generation to passionate commitment to Jesus. Following in the footsteps of his father, Gregg Harris, a leader in the home-schooling movement, he began speaking at youth conferences and publishing a magazine for teens. Joshua wrote his first book, I Kissed Dating Goodbye, at 21. It focused on honoring God in relationships and romance and became an international bestseller.
Through the teaching and friendship of C.J. Mahaney, Joshua was challenged to see the central role of the local church in God’s mission in the world. In the late ‘90s Joshua moved to Covenant Life to receive on-the-job training and mentoring. He fell in love with the church and met and fell in love with his wife Shannon. In 2004 he stepped into the role of lead pastor.
Joshua’s recent books include Dug Down Deep: Unearthing What I Believe and Why It Matters and his latest, Humble Orthodoxy: Holding The Truth High Without Putting People Down. He also serves as a member of the Gospel Coalition Council.
