Ephesians, Part 7: Application

..

On Sunday Don DeVries taught from Ephesians 2:19-22, preaching that “Christ’s reconciling work has given us a privileged status and a glorious future.”

You can listen online or download the message here.

Also, pastor Brian Chesemore has prepared these application questions for us to consider both individually in our times with the Lord, or with our family, friends or Care Group:

1.  What are the three metaphors that Paul uses in Ephesians 2:19-22 to describe the Church?

2.  Consider each of these metaphors.  How should they shape the way you view and participate in the local church?

3.  Did this message serve to make you aware of any brother or sister whom you have distanced yourself from because of bitterness or lack of love in your heart?  If so, what does it look like for you to obey God’s Word and take specific steps to pursue unity and love?

Sunday Preview: Ephesians, Part 7

..

Tomorrow is going to be a great day together as a church.

First, Don DeVries will preach from Ephesians 2:19-22. And Bob Kauflin will be leading our time of singing, joined onstage by a string ensemble.

This is also the Sunday we will be taking our offering for the Sovereign Grace Mission Fund. The last two Sundays we’ve seen short videos highlighting God’s work with partners in the gospel in Germany and Ethiopia. We will watch the third video tomorrow, in which I interview CJ Mahaney, and then we’ll have the opportunity to give toward the gospel work that Sovereign Grace is doing. If you missed any of the videos, I’ve got good news: we’ll be giving out a DVD to everyone that has all three videos on it.

And finally, tomorrow we’re doing our first “picnic and games time” in the afternoon. Bring a sack lunch after the second service and come ready to play volleyball and “The Stand,” a new game that I think you’ll really enjoy. See you tomorrow.

Trash-It Day

..

About five years ago we started a tradition called “Trash-it Day” in the office. The whole office shuts down so that we can clean out files, drawers, electronic documents, and any other pockets of accumulated stuff.

Here are some comments I shared during our time of worship this past Sunday about the recent economic uncertainty and how we can keep a biblical perspective.

Ephesians, Part 6: Application

Yesterday John Loftness continued our Ephesians series preaching from Ephesians 2:11-22 in a message titled, “The Walls Come Tumbling Down.”

You can listen online or download the message here.

Pastor Brian Chesemore has prepared these questions to help us to continue applying the message as a group or as individuals:

1. How does Paul point to Jesus as the solution to alienation from God (v.1-10) and alienation from others (v. 11-22)?

2. Paul uses language such as “one new man” and “being joined together.” Why do these phrases carry such massive relational significance in the church?

3. In what ways are you tempted to separate yourself from other believers? How can you proactively counter this sinful tendency?

4. How can you take steps in the coming weeks to grow in affection for those who are different? How can you take an interest in them?
