We will be taking a break in the Ephesians series for the month of December to study the Incarnation.

Happy Thanksgiving
0 Comments..

If two months studying Ephesians 1-3 isn’t good preparation for Thanksgiving, I don’t know what is. God has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. He has redeemed us. We were dead and he made us alive. He’s joined us to himself and to his family. He’s given us spiritual gifts.
Whether or not the turkey is cooked right or your holiday goes according to plan, we have so much to thank God for.
I hope you and your loved ones have a great Thanksgiving this week. Our family is driving to Dayton, Ohio, to celebrate with my Grandmother. It won’t be long before Grandma Harris will be with the Lord. She’s been walking with him since she was 8 years old.

Ephesians, Part 11: Application
0 Comments..

Yesterday Jerry Bridges preached from Ephesians 4:7-13, considering the giving, the development and the purpose of the gifts God gives believers.
You can listen online or download the message here.
And below are the application questions, prepared by pastor Brian Chesemore:
1. How did Jerry Bridges define the grace of God?
2. Mr. Bridges describes spiritual gifts as “an ability given by Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit to perform a specific function in the body of Christ.” How should we view those who are more gifted than us in a particular area? What is our responsibility before God as we consider the gifts he’s given us?
3. Why does Paul place emphasis in this section of Scripture on gifts of leadership in the church?
4. How are you currently using your gifts to build and serve your local church?

Jerry Bridges in our Ephesians Series
0 Comments..

I’m writing from Florida. It’s 70 degrees and the sun is shining. My family tells me it’s snowing today in Gaithersburg. I’m down here with C.J., Jeff Purswell, Pat Ennis, Kenneth Maresco and about 25 other Sovereign Grace pastors. We’re talking today about church planting and caring for the churches in our various regions.
While I’m enjoying my time, I am BUMMED to be missing this Sunday. It’s going to be a special morning. First, our dear friend Jerry Bridges is preaching. He is continuing our Ephesians series with Eph. 4:7-13, “Diversity for the Purpose of Maturity.” I’m so grateful for the way this man serves us every year, preaching here after a week of teaching in the Pastors College.
The other exciting thing about Sunday is that Ken Boer will be leading our time of singing, accompanied by the Annie Moses Band, who will also be performing a special song. Their concert is Sunday night at 7 p.m. I hope to be back in town in time to enjoy the concert with my family.

A Few Prayer Requests
0 Comments..
I’d be so grateful for your prayers. Want a list? Here ya go…
1. This week I’m in Orlando for a gathering of Sovereign Grace leaders. Please pray that God would encourage the men gathered and for my family while I’m away. Sadly, I won’t be with you Sunday. But I know you’ll enjoy hearing Jerry Bridges.
2. Work is in full swing on New Attitude 2009. My friend Matt Wahl is creating the design for the brochures and posters. David Altrogge and Mike Hartnett are planning our promotional video. These tools are essential in spreading word about the event. Would you pray that God would give them creativity and joy in their work? (And by the way, if you’ve ever been to Na, I really need your help.)
3. I’m writing. I’m a little stuck in chapter 8. Every time I ask people to pray I feel fresh strength and faith to press on. I’d be grateful if you asked God to speak to me and through me. This chapter is on the doctrine of salvation.
Thank you!
