Final ‘Pilgrim’ Shows This Weekend

The photos above are from the youth ministry’s production of “Pilgrim,” a contemporary musical based on John Bunyan’s classic, “Pilgrim’s Progress.”  I went to see the show last weekend, and it was outstanding.  I highly recommend that you catch one of the three shows this weekend.  You can purchase tickets online or at the door. Spread the word!

Thanks to Andi and Andy Alonso for the great photos.

Keeping the Baptistry Busy

..

One of the great parts of this past Sunday was seeing seven of our youth baptized: Caleb Hill (17), Bradley Veneskey (18), Ted Ryan (15), Ashley Malcolm (16), Kristin Hoover (18), Catherine Hoover (16) and Christene Hoffman (15). We’re rejoicing with you all! And thanks to all the dads who participated.

All of these students took part in a new Youth Baptism Class for youth in their mid-to-upper teens and their parents. The class looks at the meaning of baptism, who should be baptized, how we can be sure of our salvation, and the importance of the local church.

You can read more about the class and class resources here on the site.

Ephesians, Part 22: Application

..

Yesterday Kenneth Maresco preached on parenting from Ephesians 6:4: “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”

You can listen online or download the message here.

Application questions:

1.  In what ways do you tempt your children to anger through your words (harsh, critical, angry, belittling, etc)? Are there any ways you have been inconsistent in your example?  Are there any areas of unconfessed sin?  If you have sinned in these areas, seek to repent and apply the grace of the gospel for change.

2.  How can you continue to cultivate with each of your children a relationship characterized by love?  Do you ask them regularly, “Do you know that I love you and want the best for your life?”

3.  As a parent, is your biggest concern for your children that they know and follow the Lord Jesus Christ?  How often are you praying for your children’s salvation?  How often are you talking to them about the good news of Jesus Christ?

4.  In what specific ways do you need to be more diligent and faithful to bring up your children “in the instruction of the Lord”?

5.  Where do you need to grab hold of God’s grace in Christ Jesus to receive complete forgiveness of all your sins and His power for this important task of parenting?

I am looking forward to Kenneth Maresco’s message tomorrow on Ephesians 6:4: “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”

Judah Groveman will lead singing, and several youth will be baptized.

The Photography Team will be in the lobby taking photos for the Member Photo Directory after the first and second meetings. If you haven’t had your photo taken, seize the day!

Here’s a quick reminder from Drew Garfield:

The deadline to apply for the Uganda Mission Trip is Sunday, May 3. Tentative trip dates are January 1-13, 2010.

If you have a passion for spreading the gospel and partnering with believers in East Africa, please consider applying. While the two previous trips have included only singles, the 2010 trip is open to all church members, including 16-18 year olds if accompanied by a parent. Download an application here and submit it to the church office.

Read an earlier post about the trip for more info. Or e-mail me directly with questions. Thank you!
