When To Pray for the NEXT Conference: Before, During and After

..

The vision of the Next conference coming up in May is to gather worshipers of Jesus Christ who are passionate about seeing the gospel transferred to the next generation. To that end, and because Scripture calls us to pray that “the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored” (2 Thess. 3:1), we’re making a special effort to surround the entire NEXT conference with prayer.

Off-site and on-site teams are forming to pray in a concerted way before, during and after the conference. So, whether you are able to attend the conference or not, you can play a valuable part.

Download this PDF (261 kb) to get the specifics on the Prayers Teams and how you can pray and help call others to pray for NEXT. I would be so grateful!

Ephesians, Part 21: Application

..

Yesterday Greg S. gave a message titled “Children, Obey Your Parents in the Lord” from Ephesians 6:1-3 that examined the “who, what, and why” of Paul’s exhortation to children to obey and honor their parents.

You can listen online or download the message here.

Application questions:
1. Parents, how have your children honored the Lord by their example of obedience and honor?  Take time this week to let them know how grateful you are to God for them.

2. Parents, in what ways (anger, harshness, unkind or demeaning words, critical judgment, self-righteousness, etc.) do you make it difficult for your children to honor or obey you?  Take time this week to sit down with your children and ask them how you can grow in making it easier for them to obey and honor you.

3. Children, where do you need to grow in obeying your parents?  Where do you need to grow in honoring your parents?  What is one thing you can do this week to obey and honor your parents?  Take time to talk with your parents and ask them how you can grow in each of these areas.

4. Parents of young adults, are you gradually scaling back your authority and allowing your child to develop personal convictions?  Young adults, are you giving more and more weight to your parents’ wisdom and example?

Back to Ephesians

This Sunday Greg S. takes us back into our Ephesians series as he preaches from Chapter 6:1-3:

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”

Mike Bradshaw will lead singing, and we will take the Lord’s Supper together.

See you there!

Kind Words from Kansas

It was a great privilege to have the Sovereign Grace Ministries Pastors Conference here last week. Roughly 800 folks representing 19 different nations attended, and it was cool to hear that 170 of the guests were from churches that aren’t affiliated with Sovereign Grace Ministries.

Matthew Hoffman, pastor of a Sovereign Grace church in Kansas, posted the comment below on this blog in response to last week’s post about the conference. Thanks for your encouragement, Matthew!

Dear Covenant Life Church Pastors and Church Family,

I just wanted to drop you a note expressing our gratitude to you for hosting the Sovereign Grace Ministries Pastors Conference.  I know that it took many hours of volunteers working and planning to host such an event, and we just wanted to say thank you!  Thank you for the warmth of your hospitality and care.  I returned home to preach at our Good Friday service refreshed, cared for, and envisioned for the journey ahead, and you were the “vehicle,” if you will, that God used to bring many blessings to us and our local church here in Kansas City.

As a former Pastors College student who experienced your care and hospitality on a regular basis several years ago, and as one who has recently received your care, I can only say “thank you” and communicate my affection and appreciation for you.  You are an example to follow.

Thank you for caring for us. We know it didn’t happen without personal cost and sacrifice on your part. Thank you for serving your local church, loving the Savior, and caring for those of us who are part of your “extended family.”  We love you.

On behalf of the people of Providence Community Church, Lenexa, Kans.,

—Matthew Hoffman, Pastor

Amanda Darby was baptized in the first service this Sunday (Easter) and was kind enough, in both services, to tell how she came to know Christ. Thank you, Amanda, for faithfully testifying about what God has done in your life and for allowing us to share it here for a wider audience.
