C.J. Mahaney: “When Someone Doubts”
It will be our joy to have C.J. Mahaney with us on Sunday, March 13, preaching from Jude, verses 22 and 23: “And have mercy on those who doubt; save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.”
C.J. Mahaney leads Sovereign Grace Ministries in its mission to establish and support local churches. After 27 years of pastoring Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland, C.J. handed the senior pastor role to Joshua Harris on September 18, 2004, allowing C.J. to devote his full attention to Sovereign Grace. He serves on the Council of the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals and on the board of The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood.
C.J.‘s books include Humility: True Greatness; Living the Cross-Centered Life; and Sex, Romance, and the Glory of God. He is the editor of Worldliness and Why Small Groups?, and has coauthored other books in Sovereign Grace Ministries’ Pursuit of Godliness series.
C.J. and his wife, Carolyn, have three married daughters and one son. They make their home in Gaithersburg, Md.

I am so excited to be able to hear from CJ again because it’s been a while, but most importantly because of his passion for the lost, those who are in Christ, and his life experience.
Thank you, CJ, Covenant Life, and God.
Regards,
EJ
By Eric Joe on 03/08/2011I must say this was the most heartening, humbling, honest, Christ driven sermon I have heard in long time.
I have always been struck by the degree to which we are willing to depart from trusting God’s heart in favor of another doctrinal agenda. How often are we so blind to basic human suffering, doubt and frailty in favor of judgement, condemnation and arrogance in Christ’s name.
I found this sermon’s profound acknowledgment of that within the our congregation to offer love, mercy, understanding and acceptance over judgement and condemnation to be what I believe a belief in Jesus Christ is all about. Im am sure that there are many at CLC are plagued by doubt given our doctrine…it is simply human nature. Im sure there is great fear within our fellowship of judgement by our own brothers if that doubt or disbelief is revealed and CJ’s exhortation to embrace, comfort and love those people is, by far the most healing, loving message any of us could hear…because in the end it is a exhortation to love ourselves as we love our neighbors. CJ’s sensitivity to our church’s need to hear this message is profound on many levels.
Very powerful.
