Clean Water!
In May and June, our singles ministry raised over $40,000 to provide clean water to Kibuara, Uganda, where our friend Moses pastors a church. This gift was able to finance two wells in the town and one in a village where Moses just planted a new church. The remaining money will help with the church’s building project and buy them a small, portable sound system.
Construction on the wells began right away in partnership with Covenant Mercies, and we just received news that they are operational and the 3000 residents of Kibuara (almost 1/2 of whom are children) now have clean, sustainable drinking water. I’m grateful to God for the generosity of our singles!

Ambition: A Guide to Action
0 Comments“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.”
—1 Peter 4:10
On Sunday, after Dave Harvey’s Message on godly ambition, we handed out “action guides,” listing areas of service in our church into which Covenant Life members can be channeling our ambitions and gifts, stewarding them well in the church and community.
The brochure explains: “Here, you’ll find dozens of ways you are needed in the church and community. The opportunities are color-coded according to various types of gifts and skills to help you quickly identify the ones that are most likely to suit you.” So, if you didn’t get one on Sunday, you can download the below PDF and get to work.

A Letter of Encouragement
0 CommentsShortly after the Rebelution conference, I received a letter from a pastor in Michigan who had brought several teenagers from his church to attend the conference. His letter was full of encouragement, but I was most affected by his gratefulness for the hospitality he received from members of our church. Here is an excerpt:
I just had a wonderful weekend at your church and I wanted to share some of my joy with you….On Saturday we awoke and made our way to Covenant Life Church for The Rebelution. We were welcomed by friendly young people that were helpful and the kids and I were blown away by them….[On Sunday] we awoke and packed up and pulled into Covenant Life Church for the 9:00 AM service. Again, we were warmly greeted. As I filed the students into the sanctuary and got them seated a very nice lady approached us. Her name was Karen Duberstein. I talked with her about 5 minutes and ended up being invited to visit with her and her husband if my family ever comes through. This is what I love to see as a pastor. Members of the church working as part of the body of Christ. Ultimately, I am writing this email to encourage you and your pastoral staff…I will continue to pray for your church family. Thank you for joyfully serving me and my students as we visited. We felt very much at home.
I hope this letter inspires you to see the opportunity we have every Sunday to welcome guests. Let’s seize this opportunity tomorrow!

Extreme Makeover: Discovery Land
0 Comments
As you see, Grant Layman, Mike Bradshaw, and Josh Cooley are very inspired to be participating in the makeover of our Discovery Land classrooms. But there are only three of them. That’s why we need you to come out to help with the renovation tonight and Thursday night, 7:30-10 p.m. These nights are in preparation for our second round of work slots on Saturday, August 9, and Saturday, August 16.
We had a great turnout last night. Thank you so much for those of you who came out—I’m so encouraged by your heart to build our church. We do still need folks for tonight and Thursday. You’ll be working in all Discovery Land classrooms and hallways (between both lobbies on the main floor). No experience is required. Some snacks will be provided, and we’ll put you to work doing things like:
• Moving furniture
• Laying protective sheets over carpets/furniture/etc.
• Blue-taping all edges
• Spot-spackling small wall blemishes and holes
• Sanding
• Priming
• Painting
This is a fun and practical way to serve the church and make a difference in the lives of countless children who will walk through our doors in the future. So, again, here is the work schedule. If you can commit to a time, whether by yourself, your family or your care group, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) Josh Cooley (the one with the blue tape mohawk).
Wednesday, August 6, 7:30 to 10 p.m.
Thursday, August 7, 7:30 to 10 p.m.
Saturday, August 9, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. & 1 to 4 p.m.
Saturday, August 16, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. & 1 to 4 p.m.

Hiding God’s Word
0 CommentsLast Friday we had our third “Mill” meeting. The Mill is a series of Friday morning gatherings for men where we worship, hear God’s word and then pray together. One of the biggest encouragements for me has been seeing the attendance grow every week. If you haven’t yet made it out, please make plans to join us this Friday at 6:30 a.m.
For all the men who were there, I wanted to follow-up on our assignment. Erik Sheffer gave a great message about the importance of hiding God’s word in our hearts (you can hear it online.) I asked all the guys present to pinpoint one area of their life where they were fighting sin and then to choose one Scripture passage to memorize in the coming week.
So how’s the memorization going, men? I chose to memorize John 15:5 about the importance of abiding in Christ. I’ve been convicted lately of allowing my “to-do list” to distract me from communing with God. This week I’ve been meditating on Jesus statement that “apart from me you can do nothing.”
Come this Friday ready to recite your memory verse! And, please post a comment about your experience at The Mill. I’d also love to hear what passage of Scripture you’re working to memorize.
