Go Forward Fund
3 CommentsFolks,
This past Sunday Joshua announced how you can contribute to the mission of Covenant Life through the Go Forward Fund (GFF), outside of your normal giving. He announced four categories of giving—areas where we believe we can have a real ministry impact. However, he missed the fact that we actually have five funds that comprise the GFF! So, here they are again (with the additional category):
You may give to any of the categories below or to the Go Forward Fund as a whole (in which case funds will be allocated evenly across the five areas):
1. World Missions – will support a variety of mission and mercy activities worldwide such as the work at Rancho 3M and other mission trips
2. Unreached People Groups – will support work primarily in areas of the world where the gospel has never been preached; this includes areas such as North Africa and the 10/40 window.
3. Debt Reduction – will go toward accelerating the pay-down of the current church building loan
4. Church Planting / Leadership Development – will support domestic church planting, including theological training
5. Benevolence / Community Outreach – will support care and ministry in the local community as well as members in need
To contribute, simply write a check to “Covenant Life Church” and annotate “GFF” in the memo line. If you’d like to give to a specific category, indicate the category in the memo line as well. The Online Giving page of the church website has been updated to facilitate giving to these funds online. (Look for the “Fund” line where you can choose how to designate your giving.) Note that the website allows for giving by electronic check, but not credit card.
We are so grateful for your partnership in the gospel!

Coffee and Questions: Three Nights
1 CommentsThe pastors have planned three “Coffee and Questions” evenings in December where members of the pastoral team will be on hand to provide any update they can on current events and respond to questions. It’s a busy time of year, but we hope you will take advantage of this opportunity.
Use the form on the Church Family Blog to sign up for one of the nights. Signup is first come, first served, and to maximize the number of members who can participate, the form limits you to signing up for one evening only. We are hoping to serve about 100 people each evening. Thanks for your love for the church and for wanting to be a part of these gatherings.

Rancho 3M Baby Home: Complete!
1 CommentsThis coming Sunday we’ll be celebrating the completion of the baby home at Rancho 3M Orphanage and School in Gaudalupe, Mexico. Covenant Life has been partnering with Director Dean Adamek and the Rancho 3M Ministry since 2005. Completion of construction on the baby home this summer was the culmination of seven Covenant Life missions trips over a two-year period and 6000 man hours of work.
Working hand in hand with the appropriate governmental authorities, Rancho 3M plans to take in orphaned babies from the community while seeking adoptive homes for them.
The video (top) and slideshow (bottom) above provide a look at the construction process, the Covenant Life members involved, and the some of the children and staff of Rancho 3M. Thank you, Covenant Life Church for praying, believing, and giving to make the baby home possible.

Members Meeting - October 30, 2011
0 CommentsAudio of Sunday night’s members meeting is available along with full notes.
A gentle reminder: Comments for this blog are moderated. As Grant Layman shared in this members meeting: “Ephesians 4:29 says, ‘Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.’ This applies to our words, what we write in an e-mail and what we post online.”

Matt Chandler Here November 13
11 Comments
UPDATE (Nov. 13): Audio of Matt’s message, “From Rubbish to Rescue,” is now available.
We can’t wait to have Matt Chandler with us on Sunday, November 13 to preach from Philippians 3:1-16. Matt is an elder and primary teacher at The Village Church in the Dallas, Tx., area. He is also well known as a conference speaker.
On Thanksgiving day 2009 while at home with his family, Matt was rushed to the hospital after a violent seizure. Testing revealed a malignant brain tumor. His illness quickly caught the attention of the Dallas media, and it became clear that God had plans to use his story to minister gospel truth to thousands of suffering people. Roughly 300 days after that seizure, following multiple surgeries, radiation and chemotherapy, Matt was declared a healthy man. For more on the story, see Justin Taylor’s “One Year Later” interview with Matt, as well as Ligonier Ministry’s “Don’t Waste Your Cancer” interview.
In early 2009 before Matt’s bout with cancer, John Piper interviewed him at length. Here are parts one and two of the interview:
Here’s a brief excerpt of Matt’s message titled, “A Shepherd and His Unregenerate Sheep,” from the 2009 Desiring God Conference for Pastors:
More Background
Matt was born in the Seattle area to a military dad, and his family moved several times before settling in Houston. He came to know Christ at age 17. He received a bachelor’s degree in Bible from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene where he taught an inter-denominational Bible study for college students called “Grace.” From there he became a staff member at Beltway Park Church in Abilene, then relocated to Dallas to continue his itinerant speaking ministry. In 2002, he became pastor of First Baptist Church of Highland Village, known today as The Village Church. He married his wife, Lauren, in 1999. The couple has three children.
