Report on Work in Fabens, Tx.

A team of men from Covenant Life spent the last week of October in Fabens, Tx., tackling a construction project that will serve Rancho3M Orphanage and its staff. Participants were Grant Layman, Andy Tvardzik, Peter Giglio, Larry Wethje, Larry Earles, Morrie Wilson, Nick DeCarlo, Tom Crow, Bo Lotinsky, and Joe Flaherty. During church on Sunday Grant Layman took a few minutes to describe the trip and the nature of the work.

The video clip and separate slide show below will fill in the details:

Let’s Pray for OneU

To inspire you to pray, here’s the OneU video shown in church a few weeks back. OneU is the campus outreach ministry of Covenant Life Church.

In the team’s own words, “OneU aims above all else to spread the fame of Jesus Christ so that students treasure Him and embrace His church. We’re a community of students, theologians, nerds, missionaries, athletes, artists, and engineers who have been radically changed by Jesus Christ and now desire to saturate the college campus with the gospel of Jesus Christ and to raise up disciples who will spread His fame to the ends of the earth.”

Introducing God Begins

Wednesday night I got to speak at the opening session of the new Introducing God course. I really enjoyed the time and interacting with a number of guests afterward. Introducing God is such a great series of meetings. I love what’s going on there, and I’m so grateful for all those who are coming out to serve and make the course possible. Please be praying for the course and all those who are attending!

In Progress: WorshipGod09

A crowd of 1600 is here at Covenant Life this week for WorshipGod09, a Sovereign Grace conference led by Bob Kauflin and designed “to equip men and women for declaring the mighty acts of God to the next generation.” To that end conferees are being taught by John Piper, C.J. Mahaney, Jeff Purswell, Thabiti Anyabwile, and of course, Bob.

Between the main sessions and 36 seminars being offered, pretty much every square inch of the church building is in use. There are even huge tents on the back lawn to accommodate large seminars and eating lunch on site.

Please pray for strength for all who are serving to make this event possible, and for the Holy Spirit to work powerfully in the hearts of everyone who has come. The conference wraps up around noon tomorrow. (Pictured below: Devon Kauflin and Dave Campbell)

The Case of the Gray Face

Craig Sterling sent me this note after church last Sunday:

Josh,

Good afternoon! This morning you mentioned having a pet peeve (my words) with gray faces in the church directory. A few weeks ago, we received a letter from Erik Sheffer announcing that we are now under the care of Ben Wikner. So, like you, I wanted to put a face with the name of our new pastor. (If he was introduced to the congregation, I must have missed that particular meeting.)

In short, he’s not pictured in the Member Photo Directory. This morning I wondered who the person was asking us to pray for Russia. One of our row mates told us that person was Pastor Wikner. It was good to put the face with the name!

Grace and peace,

Craig and Mary Ann Sterling

Yes, we’re in the directory!  :-)

Thanks for your note, Craig. This is funny because Ben and his family all lined up and got their photos taken at church this Sunday. So, you can find the Wikners in the directory now. Your note is a great reminder (to pastors, too!) of how helpful it is to be able to put faces with names! Here’s the Wikner clan: First row: Ben and Erin, Ellie, Abigail, Lilly. Second row: William, Gracie, Hope.

Church members, here are a couple of helpful links related to the directory:

Thanks from “Mr. B”

Mike Bradshaw sent this follow-up note about last week’s Summer Celebration:

Parents of Covenant Life Church, thank you for sending your kids to spend the week with Mrs. B, Douglas Doogleberry and me. We had a blast (and learned so much about the fruit of the Spirit)! We had 150 kids attend whose parents are not members of Covenant Life, and we’re so grateful for that. We also had 250 volunteers (200 of them were youth camp counselors). Already looking forward to SC2010!

Kids, you can continue to work on the the lessons at home by using the the review cards handed out at the camp, and be sure to check out the latest Sovereign Grace kids’ CD, “To Be Like Jesus.”

In case you missed them, take a moment to enjoy the photos posted earlier on the church blog.

—Mr. B
