Good Friday
1 CommentsI hope you and your family have a blessed Good Friday, taking time to remember and give thanks for the death Jesus died for our sins, in our place.
In preparation for Easter Sunday, we’re gathering tonight as a church to worship, remember and pray for each other. We’ll be meeting in the Events Center at 7:30 p.m. I hope you can join us.
Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
—Isaiah 53:4-6

Sovereign Grace Pastors Conference
5 Comments

I’m attending the Sovereign Grace Pastors Conference this week here at Covenant Life, along with Covenant Life’s pastoral team, pastors of Sovereign Grace churches from all over the U.S. and other nations, and many guests. The first session was last night, and the conference runs through Wednesday evening.
Here’s a list of speakers and their message titles:
Monday evening | C.J. Mahaney: The Pastor’s Charge
Tuesday evening | Jeff Purswell: The Pastor’s Teaching
Wednesday morning | Dave Harvey: The Pastor’s Mission | Jared Mellinger: The Pastor’s Legacy
Wednesday evening | C.J. Mahaney: The Pastor’s Leadership
Today’s schedule includes a number of seminars for both men and women with speakers including Mark Dever, Bob Kauflin, Mike Bullmore, Dave Harvey, Jeff Purswell, Carolyn McCulley and Carolyn Mahaney.
I would be grateful for your prayers for the conference. In particular, please pray that God will sustain all those who are speaking and Bob Kauflin as he leads the singing, that every pastor and leader would be refreshed and encouraged, and that the Lord will use all that goes on to advance the gospel around the world.

Want To Serve at Next?
0 Comments
Since the beginning, the Next conference (formerly “New Attitude”) has relied on many wonderful volunteers who serve as ushers, security, bookstore workers, set up crew, and in many other roles. We are so grateful. And we need you again this year!
I’m really excited about some new ways people can serve this year:
Intercessory Prayer Team – We are seeking prayer warriors who would be willing to commit to praying before, during and after the conference. Tim Kerr, pastor of Sovereign Grace Church Toronto, will provide weekly e-mail bulletins to guide the team in prayer. For those who have the time and money to be at the conference, Tim will be leading an intercessory prayer team on site, while sending updates to those remaining at home.
Ministry Team – I would like to have a team at the conference to pray with attendees at the end of each session. Perhaps you’re a couple who has been in the church for several years, and it would excite you to serve the next generation in this way. We would love to see you participate in the conference. If you’re interested in this team, see below to apply.
Security Team – We’d like to recruit some men with law enforcement background; but regardless of background, we are looking for a team of mature men who can serve at the conference by caring for and escorting attendees, serving speakers, etc.
To apply for any of these teams, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). As with all full-time volunteers, servants on these teams will receive complimentary registration, but need to cover all their own expenses (travel, lodging, meals). Without this kind of sacrifice and servanthood, Next could not happen. Thank you!

Seminar for Parents of Children with Special Needs
0 Comments
Joe Lee sent me another item I want to highlight for you. Here’s his description of an upcoming seminar:
There are over 45,000 children in the D.C. metro area who have special needs, and the number is growing every day. A child with a special need is someone who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. These activities include but are not limited to walking, seeing, learning, working, performing manual tasks, speaking and hearing.
There are many children in Covenant Life Church who have special needs and thus are not able to fully participate in the life of the church. This applies to their families who care for them as well.
We’ve planned a seminar to provide encouragement for parents of children with special needs. These parents can often feel alone in their trials. We want to use this meeting to encourage and remind them that they are not alone as they faithfully care for their children—that God is with them—and we as a church are with them.
We also hope this gathering will help the parents connect with others who have similar trials and thus become a means of encouragement and a resource to one another.
The seminar is on Saturday, February 28, in the Edwards Room from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Gary Ricucci will lead a time of prayer and ministry for the families. We would love to see as many members as possible attend to express their love and pray for these parents.
Proverbs 18:14: “A man’s spirit will endure sickness, ?but a crushed spirit who can bear?”
