A Busy Weekend

It’s a busy day today for the Harris family and Covenant Life Church, and I’d appreciate your prayers for us this weekend.

Yesterday, after a four hour flight delay, my family from Oregon (along with my grandma from Ohio) arrived at the Baltimore airport. Alex and Brett are in Virginia for an appearance on a CBN television show. They’ll be coming in tonight.

Today the amazing volunteer team led by young adults from the church will be working to set up for the Rebelution conference. The band, led by my brother Joel, will be rehearsing. There are a lot of details to cover. Please pray for grace and strength for everybody involved.

Then tonight at 7 p.m., our church culminates our Week of Prayer for the next generation with a night of worship and prayer. We’re going to be seeking God, praying for students in our church and in the community and asking God to draw young adults to himself.

If you’re here from out of town for the Rebelution conference, we invite you to join us. We’ll also be praying for the day tomorrow.

Saturday, it’s all-day “Do Hard Things” featuring the twins and my dad. And then Sunday dad will preach at Covenant Life. Whew! What a whirlwind! If you think of my dear wife Shannon, please pray that God will help her manage all the details of hosting 11 people at our house. Thanks! And I hope to see you tonight!

Beginning Our Week of Prayer

Today we launch our Week of Prayer, focusing on the next generation.

We have set aside the room above the bookstore as our prayer room, open 5 a.m. to midnight today through Thursday, and 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday. Also please join us Friday night at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium for our ministry night, a time of worship and prayer for our youth.

Even if you can’t make it to the prayer room, please check out the prayer points from the room, which we’ve posted here. I will be posting some of the prayer points from the room throughout the week to help us in lifting up the next generation together.

For today, please be praying for our youth, for their growing relationship with God.

• Pray for genuine conversions among the youth in our ministry.
• Ask God to give our youth an increasing love for God and his Word.
• Pray that God would grow the ministry’s passion for him and his glory.
• Pray that God would protect and guard the youth in the area of purity.

This week also leads up to the Rebelution conference for youth and parents, led by my brothers Alex and Brett, who have also written a book of the same theme entitled Do Hard Things. Please be praying that the Lord would powerfully use the conference this Saturday to draw many of our youth into a deeper relationship with their Savior, and encourage them to attempt great things for our great God.

The Mill

Last Friday morning men gathered for the first Mill meeting.  The vision for these weekly meetings for men is to have “iron sharpen iron” as we gather to hear God’s word and pray together. We believe that men are called to set the pace spiritually for our church and so we’re asking God to stir fresh zeal for him in our hearts.

We’ve been getting some encouraging feedback since last Friday’s meeting. One man wrote, “I have always enjoyed having men get together to worship and share their hearts with each other. That is real manhood!! What a blessing to see Dads standing next to their sons.”

And a wife of one of the guys wrote and said, “Just this morning, my husband David came home from the Mill and began telling me about how he was so excited about participating in this gathering of guys each week. He was running a little late and had a lot on his mind as he walked into the church this morning, but as soon as he heard the worship coming out of the Events Center (they were singing I Come by the Blood) he was reminded of what a holy God he was approaching and was so blessed just to slow down, and take time to focus on what God has done for him through Christ. He said it was short and sweet, but packed with truth.”

For those of you men who came, thank you for being there. I would encourage men of all ages not only to participate this Friday but also to bring a friend. This is for all men—not just members of the church. Coffee will be served starting at 6:15, as we’ll be starting the meeting promptly at 6:30. Men, I hope to see you there.
