Diving Into Ephesians
0 CommentsYesterday I received this encouraging e-mail from Covenant Life member Javed Khan. He makes a great suggestion on reading straight through the book of Ephesians. Thanks for the tip, Javed!
Dear Josh,
Many thanks for beginning the study on Ephesians. I am very excited to see what the Lord will do as we go over this book. I did this morning what you suggested and read over Ephesians in one sitting. A good way to do this is to go to the online ESV and listen and follow it as it is read out on audio. This is a good way to do it because it allows you to process the message by multiple senses (sight, sound, and touch if you write and underline at the same time). It took less than 30 minutes, and it was very rich, and I was able to see the “Forest for the Trees.”
I continue to pray for you as you lead His church.

Chris’s Testimony
0 Comments
The second person to be baptized this past Sunday was Christopher Gonzalez. Here’s Chris’s testimony:
Life before Christ was like living in a hole I could never climb out of. I felt alone, ran the streets, and didn’t really care about anyone. But I presented myself in a way that made it seem like everything was all right.
Then I met a woman, now my wife, who spoke to me of Christ and how great he is. One night while my wife was having a seizure I prayed “Lord if you are real and posses the power they say you do, show me. Please stop Cori from having this seizure.” Before I could finish this prayer, it was over. That same week I went to church and a gentle man I never met before asked me if I knew Christ. I said no, so we prayed and he told me I was saved. I thought, “that’s it, I’m saved, I’m good” but for years I went on the same way, the same routine. It wasn’t until I came to Covenant Life that I learned what true repentance is and what true salvation is. I’ve turned from my sin and trusted in Christ.
Christ has changed my life in so many ways. I love people now, I’m more alert to the Holy spirit, and I now have a loving church family. In Covenant Life I’ve met a few people that have helped me. My wife, who is a spiritual warrior in prayer, Mr. Rashford and his family, Dana and Marcia Early, my care group, Don DeVries, Joe Lee and Josh Harris. When I came in this church Pastor Corby greeted me. Just in the way he prayed for me showed me how God’s grace can change a person.
I want to be baptized today to show what Christ has done in me; that I have died with Christ and been raised with him.

Linda’s Testimony
0 Comments
We had two baptisms this Sunday, one in each service. Before being baptized, Linda Irwin shared this testimony:
I have admired Covenant Life Church since 1991 when I first heard CJ Mahaney speak. I probably hold the record for the oldest/longest visitor. I attended the old Celebration retreat but didn’t know what we were celebrating until I got there. My sister, Terry Mayo, said, “If I had told you, you wouldn’t have come.” I had brought a bottle of wine and a bad attitude. But Terry was patient with me. One year, I even went to New Attitude with my nephew, Sean, who is here today, and his friends.
I always believed in God (He’s watching ya know), but I never thought I could call myself a Christian. I considered myself God’s favorite sinner destined to watch the church from afar. My sister never gave up on me. She sent me tapes and books that I read and appreciated from a social science perspective. I even used The Peacemaker by Ken Sande in my business. But I thought my sins were too great, and I’d never belong.
In 2002 Terry sent a small orange book in the mail. It was C.J. Mahaney’s The Cross Centered Life, and boy was my life over as I had known it. A light bulb went off in my heart, and in spite of my thick skull, I realized that I was a sinner, but even I could be forgiven by Christ’s death on the cross. Me!
I have visited many local churches, and it is a huge honor for me to say today, I am finally joining one. C.J., if you’re listening, thank you. Josh Harris, I think you’re doing a great job! Braden Greer, thank you for listening to my story. Eric Simmons, thank you for your enthusiasm in Starting Point. And Terry, thank you for showing me God never gave up on me. I love you.
Today, I want to be baptized to show that I’ve died with Christ and I’ve been made new by Christ.

The Prayer Room: An Interview
2 Comments
People of all ages have been visiting the prayer room this week. I wanted you to hear from one 17-year-old member of our church, Kristin Hoover, about what motivated her to come to pray and how the prayer room affected her.
1. Why did you come to prayer room?
I went to the prayer room to pray for my own soul, the soul of my friends and the rest of the youth group. I went to have an undistracted and focused time of praying Scripture and seeking the Lord for one of the biggest burdens on my heart—to see God’s spirit and power captivate the lives of the youth in our church.
2. What were you affected by as you prayed through the prayer points?
Many of the prayer points made me even more grateful for the friends I have that are modeling their lives after Scripture. And as I was praying through the prayer points, Ephesians 2:19-20 affected me as I considered that we are together “the household of God,” a family. What a precious way to care for the members of God’s family by praying for them. I am so glad that the entire church is praying for the next generation this week. We do need to be cared for by the other members of the body, and there is such a sense of unity, love and family care when the church gives itself to seeking God on behalf of its youth.
3. Did you come away from the prayer room with any new burdens on your heart?
I think I came away with a renewed burden for revival among the youth; to see God revealed to the youth in a powerful way so that there is a quickening of our hearts after the things of God. I also came away with a fresh burden to seek, seek, seek God’s word to better know God’s will for how I am to live. I have such a burden to see myself, my friends and the whole youth group live in the joyful safety of God’s word and to live in the fear of the Lord; taking his word and commandments seriously as the only right standard by which to live your life.
4. Anything you’d want to say to adults about this week of prayer for the next generation?
I am so grateful for all the people that have visited the prayer room and have sought God for all of us! We need it! I want to encourage the entire church to be seeking God on behalf of the youth, regardless of your age or whether or not you have any teenagers yourself. This is part of expressing care for one another in the body of Christ. This is a big part of your family that needs to meet the Lord in a unique way right now. Please don’t take your opportunity to invest in our lives lightly.
