Uganda Team Update #6
0 CommentsJust received the following update from Kelly:
Mission Front:
1) Jon Gasca preached Thursday afternoon at the village crusade, and three people dedicated their lives to the Lord, including two young men in their early 20s and a teenage girl who is terminally ill with AIDS. Praise God for his kindness to these precious ones!
2) Please pray for Isaac (health update below) and Drew who will both be preaching on Friday. Each will preach one sermon at the Youth Conference and Isaac is currently scheduled to preach at the afternoon village crusade.
Health Updates/Prayer Requests:
1) Eric McAllister: His low-grade fever finally broke Thursday evening before bed, but then slowly returned by this morning; he seems to be the most uncomfortable to date, and will be staying in again on Friday to continue to heal. Please pray for a quick return to full health!
2) Three more team members came down with low grade fevers and, thus, returned to the guest house Thursday afternoon: Casey Somerville, Danny Mays and Hye Joon Pak. All three are feeling better this morning, however, Hye Joon will be staying back at the guest house to continue to rest and heal. Danny and Casey are fever-free and will be going out with the team.
3) Courtney Ricucci and Jake Campbell both developed low-grade fevers Thursday evening. Jake awoke fever-free and feeling well enough to go out Friday with the team. Courtney will stay back at the guest house for continued rest and recuperation.
4) Danielle Warren continues to struggle with wakening during the night. Melanie Garfield has also begun having difficulty sleeping. Please pray for both of these dear ladies that they will get the physical rest their bodies need.5) Matt Wahl is feeling much improved and was able to sleep well again. He will be going out with the team on Friday.
6) Isaac’s fever broke a few hours before bedtime. He is generally feeling better and is going out to lead the team today.
7) Isaac reports that the entire team is officially exhausted from their busy schedule. Please pray for overall strength and stamina, both physical and spiritual.
As always, it is a privilege to partner with you in prayer! What an encouragement to know that our gracious God is busy doing His work in Uganda, including tenderly shepherding our dear friends and family during their sojourn there.

Uganda Team update #5

Thursday Overview: The team will again be led by Drew Garfield. As for the Youth Conference, Brandon Wyzga will preach a sermon from 2 Timothy today, and Drew will preach again for the second sermon. Another team member will be assigned later today to preach at the village crusade.
Health Updates/Prayer Requests (Much prayer needed in this arena!):
1) Isaac is feeling slightly better; however, he has had a return of a low-grade fever and, therefore, was advised by the nurses on the team to stay at the guest house to continue to rest and recover today.
2) Four others are also staying behind at the guest house today: Matt Wahl* and Eric McAllister for similar flu-like symptoms, one of the team’s bus drivers, named “Sunday,” who has been diagnosed with (and is being treated for) malaria, and Danielle Warren, one of our team’s nurses, who is staying behind to care for those who are ill. *As a follow-up to previous prayer requests: Matt was able to sleep for 10 hours last night, praise God!!!
3) Isaac estimates that an additional 8-10 people on the team have also begun to feel poorly. Their symptoms include cough, nasal congestion and sore throat. Since none of these members had any signs of fever, and all had expressed a desire to go out and indicated feeling well enough to, they will be participating in today’s efforts. As an added precaution, Drew will be monitoring their health status and, if any team member’s symptoms worsen as the day progresses, they will also return to the guest house to rest and recuperate. Isaac wanted us to be reassured—everyone on the team is attempting to be wise and cautious regarding their health. :)
Additional Health Information: Danielle, who has contacts in Uganda through the hospital where she works, spoke with a physician in Kampala. He said the symptoms the team is reporting sound very typical of what Americans experience when visiting Uganda, and are most likely the result of a viral infection that some arrived with; often their immune systems become weakened from fatigue, and any infection will begin to flourish as a result. This doctor works in the hospital that a previous team member utilized last year, and he has offered his assistance and rooms to our current team members, if it becomes necessary.
Thank you for your continued prayer and support for these precious saints out in the mission field doing His work! Your prayers are definitely felt and appreciated. He is there in their midst!

I was able to talk at greater length with Isaac tonight and have some more specifics to pass on.
The mission front…
General: Isaac reiterated that the team has been very effective in preaching the gospel and in sharing testimonies; people continue to be saved every day! Please enjoy the following reports of the fruit of their labors…
Youth Conference: As previously mentioned, Drew Garfield preached twice. One of his messages was from 2 Timothy: to aim to live for Jesus Christ. In addition, the team had passed out the remaining blue “One Life” bracelets utilized by the Singles Ministry. Drew tied the bracelets to his message as a tangible reminder to encourage the youth to live their one life for Jesus Christ, and to live for Him now! The bracelets, and the message, were received with much excitement!
Also, the number of attendees at the Youth Conference continues to grow each day as more people arrive. By Wednesday, well over 500 were in attendance and Pastor Moses is expecting more every day!
Village Crusade: David Somerville preached the gospel on Wednesday. As a result, a man who is blind, a young woman in her 20s, and many children were converted!
Additional Praise Reports: Isaac said they have been so encouraged to routinely encounter people who became saved as a result of the investment of last year’s team! Many are still pursuing the Lord and are thriving members at Pastor Moses’ Church, including one young teenage boy whose story I believe you will find compelling. He inquired after Jimmy Wilson, a member of last year’s team. Jimmy had shared the gospel with and prayed for this young man a year ago—a quote from him: “Jimmy is my best friend; he gave me a new heart!”
Jimmy, please feel the Lord’s encouragement for the role you played in His plans for this teenager’s life! Well done!

Uganda Team Update #3

Wednesday:
The team was led by Drew Garfield today to participate in the same format described yesterday (Youth Conference, village evangelism, and “crusade”). Drew preached twice today, and Isaac said that he did an excellent job! The team’s service continues to have a significant impact in this region. Many lives are being dedicated to the Lord on a daily basis!! What a Savior we serve!
As for health updates/prayer requests:
1) Please pray for Danielle Warren and Matt Wahl. They are having difficulty sleeping; they awaken in the middle of the night and are unable to return to sleep. Please pray God would grant them sweet slumber!
2) Please continue to pray for healing for Isaac; he was advised to stay back at the guesthouse today to rest and implement his doctor’s recommendations. Hopefully, this respite will speed his recovery so he can rejoin the team in their adventures asap!
3) Please pray for the overall stamina of the entire team; Isaac indicated that this is generally the point in a trip of this nature where the daily routine can become physically exhausting. The team is currently doing well. He simply would ask us to lift them up pro-actively. :)
Thanks for lifting up these requests, along with all of your faithful prayers for this trip, to our Heavenly Father. What a privilege we have to serve both our precious friends and family, and this dear community, in this significant way; and how kind of our Lord that we can be confident He hears and answers!!!! It is a pleasure to pray alongside all of you. :)

Uganda Team Update #2

Tuesday:
The team began the day by serving at the regional youth conference until about
4 p.m. During that time, about two-thirds of the team were also deployed into the villages to do evangelistic outreaches (included preaching, serving, interacting with the community, etc.). Then, the team concluded the day from 4-7 p.m. with an evangelistic “crusade” where they set up in the middle of a village; there is preaching and much opportunity to serve amongst those who come.The above format is the rough schedule that the team will be following from Wednesday through Friday. I will keep you posted. :)
As for health updates, Dan Calderone is doing/feeling well!!! The remainder of the team is also in good health, with the exception of Isaac. He has continued to get a little worse. He was going to bed, hoping rest will help, when I spoke with him earlier today (about 9:30 p.m. their time, I think?). I have contacted his doctor to get some treatment suggestions to pass on when I next speak with Isaac. Please keep him in your prayers for healing. :)
We serve a merciful and gracious God! Praise to Him for the lives that are being transformed right now as these wonderful servants emulate their Savior!

Uganda Team Update

A snapshot of the team as they prepare to depart for Uganda
Thank you for praying. The team has arrived in Kiburara and has begun to serve there. Kelly Hydoski (wife of Isaac, the pastor leading the trip) sent us this update this morning:
I spoke with Isaac around midnight (which is about 8 a.m. their time). They had a great first day of ministry They did an evangelistic outreach and were able to tour the three well sites that had been built since last year; Isaac said it was such a joy to see the children drinking clean water!
When we spoke, they were about to begin their “Tuesday” by going to serve at the regional youth conference (ages ranging up to 30, I believe) that Moses [the pastor in Kiburara] is leading. The team will be assisting with this for the next four days…so please continue to pray for fruit and opportunities to bless and spread the good news of the gospel! I know there are divine appointments awaiting!
Moses is anticipating around 1000+ attendees this year, and many people walk for a day or more to attend!
As for the team, most are still in excellent health. Two prayer requests have emerged: 1) Dan Calderone had a slight fever the previous day and went back to the guesthouse (where they are staying) to rest for a few hours; please pray for quick healing and return to full health! 2) Isaac has come down with a sore throat…and he will be preaching twice a day at the conference; please pray for quick healing and strength to do God’s work…and specifically that he won’t lose his voice! :)
I will write again with more information as I get it. I am so grateful we get to pray together for these humble servants as they lay down their lives for Him!!!
