Members Meeting - October 30, 2011
0 CommentsAudio of Sunday night’s members meeting is available along with full notes.
A gentle reminder: Comments for this blog are moderated. As Grant Layman shared in this members meeting: “Ephesians 4:29 says, ‘Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.’ This applies to our words, what we write in an e-mail and what we post online.”

The Kimyal Tribe Receives the Word
0 CommentsYesterday, Joshua Harris closed his sermon (part 6 of “Nehemiah: When God Revives His People”) by showing a video of the Kimyal Tribe of West Papua, Indonesia, receiving an airplane load of New Testaments—for the first time, translated into their own language. We post the video here courtesy of World Team, the mission organization that produced it. World Team exists to establish reproducing churches focusing on the unreached peoples of the world.
The Kimyals are sustenance farmers who were untouched by the outside world until World Team missionaries Phil and Phyliss Masters brought the gospel to their area in 1963. Phil Masters and fellow missionary Stan Dale were killed by the Yale tribe in 1968. Read more about the Kimyals at WorldTeam.org and kimyaltribe.com.

Reviewing “Simeon’s Bucket List”
1 CommentsJoshua’s message from December 19 considers the successive encounters between Joseph and Mary and two elderly believers, Simeon and Anna, described in Luke 2:22-40.
Just 40 days after Jesus’ birth, Joseph and Mary have traveled to Jerusalem to present the baby in the temple; there, Simeon and Anna—two devout worshippers, strangers to Joseph and Mary—recognize the baby as the Son of God and testify boldly to those in the temple that Jesus is the longed for salvation of God. From Simeon and Anna’s response when they behold the baby King, we learn how we should see and receive Jesus, and what it means to watch and wait patiently for God’s purpose to be fulfilled.
The sermon poses three pivotal questions we can all ask ourselves; they’re especially pertinent as we contemplate and prepare for the new year:
• What will you grow old waiting for?
• What do you see when you see Jesus?
• What is on your “bucket list”? (i.e., What do you hope to do before you die?)
Audio (MP3) and an outline (PDF) are available in the Resource Library.

Find a Bible Reading Plan for the New Year
0 Comments
Each year around this time, our pastors like to remind us that a steady diet of Scripture reading is a key ingredient of the Christian life. An option that helps many people is reading the Bible according to a defined schedule.
There are a number of Bible Reading Plans available, but one published by Discipleship Journal has been a mainstay for some time. Visit Discipleship Journal’s website to evaluate the three plans offered and download the one you prefer. Two of the three are available in Spanish.
ESV Bible Online also offers a variety of plans.

Scripture Memory: Proverbs 5:22-23
0 CommentsLast week’s Scripture memory verse was Proverbs 5:21. I forgot to mention the new one on Sunday, but for this week let’s memorize Proverbs 5:22-23:
“The iniquities of the wicked ensnare him,
and he is held fast in the cords of his sin.
He dies for lack of discipline,
and because of his great folly he is led astray.”
