Sunday Preview: Ephesians and Praying for Iran

This Sunday Mike Bradshaw leads our time of singing. Mark Mullery, senior pastor of Sovereign Grace Church of Fairfax will continue our Ephesians series, preaching from 1:3-6:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.

We will also take some time to pray for the nation of Iran, a nation rich with history and culture but currently facing some grave circumstances such as religious persecution, human trafficking, and rising poverty and unemployment. On Sunday, we will pray for these 65 million people and the converts among them facing great pressure and persecution from family and friends and from the Islamic government, which just passed a bill imposing the death penalty for converts to Christianity. But by God’s grace and in spite of the isolation from the outside world of believers, the young church in Iran thrives, and I look forward to crying out to the Lord on their behalf this Sunday.

Sunday Preview: Ephesians

After two months in our “Don’t Waste Your…” series, I’m excited to be getting back into studying a book of the Bible together. Were going to take our time in the book of Ephesians. This will take us through to next summer.

In Sunday’s introductory message, I’ll be covering Paul’s opening greeting to the Ephesians, and hopefully giving us all greater excitement for studying the book together.

Bob Kauflin will be leading us in singing some songs that call us to offer our voices (“Come, Christians, Join to Sing”) and our lives (“What a Savior”) in response to God’s unmerited kindness toward us.  We’ll also spend some time focusing on what it means practically for us to engage with God in our times of singing by hearing and responding to Psalm 100.

Sunday Preview: “Don’t Waste Your Sports”

Tomorrow is the final message in our “Don’t Waste Your…” series. C.J. Mahaney will be preaching from 1 Corinthians 10:31 on the topic of sports and the glory of God.

Ken Boer will be leading us in singing “Amazing Grace,” “All I Have is Christ” and “In Christ Alone.” These songs focus on the transformation that God has made in our lives—that we were lost in darkness, but now know His grace.

We will also have the opportunity tomorrow to welcome a new class of Pastors College students and wives from various Sovereign Grace churches around the U.S., and from Mexico and South Korea. You’ll get a handout with all their names and pictures to help you get to know them and pray for them this year.

I look forward to worshiping with you tomorrow.

Jeff Purswell is preaching Sunday on “Don’t Waste Your Mind.” Jeff is a man who exemplifies using the mind to honor and serve God. Jeff’s keen theological understanding, impressive academic credentials and gift of teaching are all invested in training other men for pastoral ministry as he leads the Sovereign Grace Pastors College. On Sunday, Jeff will help us see what it is to love God “with all your mind.”

Judah Groveman and his band Zelos will be leading us in singing. We’re going to be “reaching into the vault” and singing a couple of songs we haven’t done in awhile, such as “Across the Great Divide” and “In My Heart” when we come together to worship God this Sunday.

On Sunday Bob Kauflin will be leading us as we worship God in song, focusing on the Lord’s constant, steadfast and good love, expressed in his giving his life for us. We will be learning a new song, “The Lord Is,” from the recently released Psalms CD, as well as singing “God Over All,” “Oh the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus” and “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us.” In the midst of this time of worship, we will partake of the Lord’s Supper.

Also, Dave Harvey will be preaching a message titled “Don’t Waste Your Ambition.” Dave serves on the Sovereign Grace Leadership Team, and has served as the senior pastor of Covenant Fellowship Church near Philadelphia for the last 19 years, culminating this October when he plans to pass on the role of senior pastor to Jared Mellinger.
