Introducing the Gospel of Matthew

Robin Boisvert opened our series on the Gospel of Matthew yesterday by reminding us of the simple but all-important priority that we need to know Jesus better. We need to grow in knowing, loving and following Jesus, and nothing will help us do these things more than seeing him afresh through the Gospels.

Robin quoted a couple of our pastors on why they believe it’s important for us to take up the daunting challenge of an extended study in Matthew. One pastor said, “I think that there are quite a few of our people that are just wandering right now in their walk with God. I think the promises of God in Christ can and will ignite a passion in them. Being pressed into the Word will cause us to understand the key Old Testament passages that Matthew uses. Seeing the face of Christ, sitting with Christ, and hearing his words will encourage many.”

Robin went on to say, “You know, we each may have our own conception of who he [Christ] his, and it may be flawed. We need to take a close and sustained look at what the Bible actually says about Jesus and not how we think of him. Because to know him, and love him, and serve him, so as to glorify him, is the reason we exist.”

Audio and an outline of Robin’s message are available in the Resource Library.

Excited with anticipation about studying a book of the Bible for a nice long time.  Thanks for all those who are preparing to preach.  I’m praying for you!

John 17:3 “And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”  Thank you, thank you, thank you for leading us to see Jesus.  May we all see Him as we never have. Holy Spirit, please magnify the Son through this next season and may we all emerge changed by having seen our Lord. Help us to know Who we believe not just what we believe.  Shake us from any necessary place unfitting for those who worship you.  Awaken your Bride to see You as our glorious Husband.  Challenge our foundations and be our Lord!  Father, bless our church as we fix our eyes on Jesus.  Teach us to be like Him and to know Him.  May we have an eternal vision.
