Pastor Tullian Tchividjian will preach here at Covenant Life in both services on Sunday, November 28. His Scripture text will be Colossians 1:9-14, and his title, “Jesus + Nothing = Everything.”
Tullian’s full name is (get ready…) William Graham Tullian Tchividjian (pronounced cha-ví-jin). He is a Florida native, the pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, a visiting professor of theology at Reformed Theological Seminary, and a grandson of Billy and Ruth Graham. Yep, Billy Graham’s grandson is coming to preach at Covenant Life!
A graduate of Columbia International University (philosophy) and Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Tullian is the author of Do I Know God? Finding Certainty in Life’s Most Important Relationship (Multnomah), Unfashionable: Making a Difference in the World by Being Different
(Multnomah) and Surprised by Grace: God’s Relentless Pursuit of Rebels
(Crossway). Tullian is also a contributing editor to “Leadership Journal.” He speaks at conferences throughout the U.S., and his sermons are broadcast daily on the radio program “Godward Living.”
When he is not reading, studying, preaching or writing, he enjoys being with people and relaxing with his wife Kim and their three kids, Gabe, Nate and Genna. Tullian loves the beach, exercise, and when he has time, surfing.
Tullian’s favorite authors include C.S. Lewis, J.I. Packer, Francis Schaeffer, and Jonathan Edwards.

By mary simmons on 11/22/2010Wow!I’m a big fan of Tullian having read his recent books and heard him several times on the White Horse Inn. Are we in for a treat!
By Dave Brown on 11/22/2010Before Josh mentioned Tullian, I had not heard of him. Now I see that at 36 he has become the senior pastor of Dr. James Kennedy’s Church Coral Ridge in FL. As I consider God raising up these 30-somethings to begin to lead prominent evangelical churches, I"m reminded of a key observation Chuck Colson made a few weeks ago at the last PFM Board meeting:
Post WWII, God seem to be anointing para-church mega-stars (e.g. Billy Graham, Bill Bright, Dawson Trottman, Francis Schaeffer, Carl Henry, Pat Robinson, Jim Dobson, Colson, etc.) to bring a marginalized fundamentalist church back into engagement with the mainstream culture. Now He seems to be anointing ordinary local church pastors who are becoming the prominent voice for restoration of biblical Christianity, and extending His kingdom.
One window to test this hypothesis is the Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization. At the first Congress in 1974, only John Stott of the 5 main speakers was a current pastor: Samuel Escobar, Francis Schaeffer, Carl Henry ,John Stott, and Ralph Winter. Last month at the Third Congress in South Africa, over half of the main speakers were current pastors — e.g. Calisto Odede, Associate Pastor of Nairobi Pentecostal Church, Kenya; Vaughan Roberts, Rector of St Ebbe’s Church, Oxford , UK; Tim Keller; John Piper.
Whether this is an accurate insight or not, I look forward to hearing what God is saying to His church through any prophet, but especially those who are my sons’ peers.
By Chip Grange on 11/23/2010Something missing from the equation as without Jesus, we have worse than Nothing; that is, we are left with and in our sin which would bring eternal punishment in Hell and eternal separation from God. Jesus - Our Sin = Everything since Jesus cancels our sin and is more powerful than Satan, the author of sin. (i.e, Jesus >>> Satan….Jesus is much greater than Satan) Therefore, mathematically (whether sin = 0 due to Jesus’s cancellation or sin = a very large real number due to the depth of our sin and the power of Satan), Jesus = Everything.
By Whit Roberts on 11/28/2010This was my second time at this church and was very pleased and moved by your sermon today. Can you repeat the passage at your closing sermon about what your son wrote and read out loud…please share that..it touched me the most! Thank you!
By Michelle Bowser on 11/28/2010Here is the text of the quote that Tullian read at the close of his sermon (origin uncertain):
“I’m a part of the fellowship of the unashamed. The die has been cast. I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made. I’m a disciple of His and I won’t look back, let up, slow down, back away, or be still.
My past is redeemed. My present makes sense. My future is secure. I’m done and finished with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, mundane talking, cheap living, and dwarfed goals.
I no longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I don’t have to be right, or first, or tops, or recognized, or praised, or rewarded. I live by faith, lean on His presence, walk by patience, lift by prayer, and labor by Holy Spirit power.
My face is set. My gait is fast. My goal is heaven. My road may be narrow, my way rough, my companions few, but my guide is reliable and my mission is clear.
I will not be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded or delayed.
I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice or hesitate in the presence of the adversary. I will not negotiate at the table of the enemy, pander at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity.
I won’t give up, shut up, or let up until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up, and preached up for the cause of Christ.
I am a disciple of Jesus. I must give until I drop, preach until all know, and work until He comes. And when He does come for His own, He’ll have no problems recognizing me. My colors will be clear!”
By Don Nalle on 11/29/2010That was one of the best sermons I have ever heard. Thank you Mr. Tchividjian for preaching God’s Word to us!
