Wounded Warriors Ministry
Posted Tuesday, September 22 2009
The Wounded Warriors Ministry is about thanking men and women of the military for their sacrifice and service to our country by preparing a monthly luncheon for approximately 75 of the patients, families and staff at The National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. We also bring encouragement notes for both patients and staff thanking them for their service. Our desire is to let them know that they are not forgotten, and to express in a small way that we are grateful for all they have done.
We provide lunch on the second Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to noon. The next scheduled luncheon is January 9.
Here is how you can serve:
•Prepare food for the patients and their families by signing up at the LINK table. You will be contacted one week prior to the luncheon as a reminder of what you are bringing. Many of these items can be purchased at Sam’s Club or Costco. If you sign up to bring an entrée, please pick up a recipe card at the LINK table. Please label the food items “Wounded Warriors” and put them in the church kitchen refrigerator or on the kitchen counter by 2 p.m. on the Friday prior to the Saturday luncheon.
•Write a thank you card to encourage the patients or staff. Bring it to the LINK table on a Sunday or drop it off at the church office during the week.
•Play music. Whether you are an instrumentalist or vocalist, you can perform in the lounge for the patients and their families during the luncheon. Sign up at the LINK table, or contact the church office.
