End of Summer BBQ
It’s Labor Day weekend and we’re throwing an End of Summer BBQ this Friday, August 31. We want to seize this evening together as a low-key way to welcome in others that God might be drawing into His community. The church will be providing burgers & dogs, eating at 6:30pm and hanging out until sunset on the church’s back lawn, bring snacks to share and a blanket or lawn chairs to sit on.
We’re praying that God uses this time to build & grow our church community, so pray with us for this and for good weather! And if you haven’t yet, take a minute and invite those you are reaching out to. Let’s bring others into our experience of a loving community that has been transformed by the gospel! Jump on this opportunity to invite out friends, family, neighbors, co-workers. Everyone is welcome…kids, marrieds, singles, etc.
See you on Friday!

Imaging Christ the Servant Leader
Men are called to be leaders. Men are called to be servants. But why? If you’re like me you’ve probably had that thought. Kevin Rogers will be preaching from the Scriptures with the answer to this question. On Friday, July 20th @ 7:30pm all the single men in the church will be gathering to learn more about Christ who perfectly imaged God as both leader & servant for our benefit.
Guys, do yourself, the church & the world a favor by coming out to this teaching!
Work, Career & Womanhood
Our friend, Carolyn McCulley, is writing a new book on the topic of work and womanhood & she will be here to teach this subject on Friday, July 20th @ 7:30pm. She will help married & single woman alike see their call to work as image bearers of God & how this intersects with their individual priorities of home, family, church & career. About this Carolyn says: “If we understand the dominion mandate rightly, we will stop thinking that our labors somehow define us and will start thinking that our labors exist as an expression of divine love and care. Thus the woman who labors as a mother of small children or a childless woman who labors in an office are both fulfilling the dominion mandate if they are working not to adorn themselves but to adorn the gospel.”
Carolyn is bringing this needed perspective as a nationally known speaker & author on biblical womanhood. Over the last few years she has added entrepreneur to her resume with the start up of her documentary film company. We know questions can abound for women who are either working in the home or in a career and we believe this talk will bring a greater biblical clarity to those questions.
UGANDA MISSIONS TRIP
This past January a team of us went to Uganda to preach the gospel, lead a youth conference, and care for widows by repairing their homes - it was an awesome trip. A team led by Drew Garfield and Robin Boisvert is going to Uganda January 11-24, 2013 and we’d like you to consider joining & supporting this vital and significant gospel work 8000 miles away.
The past 5 years that we’ve partnered with Pastor Moses & Kiburara Gospel Centre Church in Uganda we’ve witnessed the planting of 6 new thriving churches, we’ve seen how a youth conference has renewed & encouraged Ugandan believers, and on our evangelistic outreaches we’ve had the joy of sharing the gospel and witnessing hundreds of people come to Christ.
In a country with overwhelming needs it can be easy to be discouraged but with patient, consistent preaching of Christ and building up of His church it’s incredible to experience firsthand God’s mission to make disciples in a context different than ours. Each trip opens eyes, with strengthened and renewed faith, to see that the gospel really is the power of God unto salvation, that the fields are ripe for harvest, and that the gospel really is “bearing fruit & increasing in the whole world.”

• Date: Jan 11-24, 2013
• Cost: $2500

Men’s Bible Study
The 1st Friday of every month Isaac will be leading a Bible study for men who are interested in studying the Word together, and growing in an understanding of what it means to be a man today. God has called us as men to be imaging Him in how we lead, serve, sacrifice, and obey. The risk-taking adventure of following Jesus requires courage & faith. We’ll be looking to God together as men for direction in our call.
The Bible study is every month on the 1st Friday at Isaac’s place.
If you’d like to attend, contact Isaac Hydoski at (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)).

Singles Ministry Meeting: May 18
How often do you stop and think carefully about why you live the way you do? When is the last time you considered why you read the Bible, pray, tell others about Jesus, or attend church? If someone interrupted you while you were busy and asked, “Why do you do the things you do?” What would you say? What’s the first answer that comes to mind?
Answering this question is the reason we’re meeting together as a ministry, on Friday, May 18. As your pastors, we want you to be reminded of why we all live, act, and believe the way we do. To see and comprehend the greatness of our God. To be reminded of the beauty and splendor of who He is. And to behold Him for who He reveals Himself to be in the Word, and respond like Ezekiel:
“And I looked, and behold, the glory of the LORD filled the temple of the LORD. And I fell on my face.” (Ezekiel 44:4 ESV)
We believe that beholding our God for who he is, is the only sustaining and joy producing motive for the sacrifice, discipleship, fellowship, evangelism and daily discipline of the Christian life that we are called to pursue. We want you to join us in beholding our God so we can worship him, love him and recall how glorious and worthy he is of our all.
During our time together we’ll sing songs that help us behold the God of our salvation and learn from Scripture to remind us that the focus of all our Christian living is the worship of the one true God.
We hope you will join us Friday, May 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the main auditorium. And think about who you can bring along to behold the God of the gospel with us.

Local Missions
Summer is fast approaching, and I wanted to draw your attention to a few great opportunities to serve in the community at our 2012 Local Missions Summer Outreach. Each year my friend Todd Keeler organizes an outreach team whose aim is to:
• serve the local community and show the love of Christ
• host a Christian day camp at neighborhood sites (Emory Grove, Laytonia, Washington Grove)
• build an on-going ministry in the community
This years’ summer outreach week is July 7-14, and Todd needs the help of several dependable, creative, leadership-oriented individuals to make this event happen. Hope you’ll consider serving on this outreach team and passing the word on to others!
A few of the positions are more urgent than others, so if you’re ready to serve, check out the immediate needs listed directly below. If you’d like to serve later in the summer, check out the outreach week listing.
