Jude: Called to Contend, Part 1
3 CommentsYesterday C.J. Mahaney preached the first of two messages from the book of Jude. He especially focused on unpacking v.1b:
“To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ”
Options for reviewing and applying the message:
• Listen online or download an mp3.
• A summary outline in PDF format
• Use the questions below for further reflection and application to your life.
1. Has “AMAZING GRACE” diminished to “amazing grace”? Do you need to remember that God summoned and called you? Do you need to reflect on where you would be if God had not called you? By way of remembrance, take some time to share your testimony with your family, friends or care group.
2. Do you think “hard thoughts” about God the Father—that He is angry wrathful and distant? How can you begin to replace those wrong thoughts with thoughts that in all things God is good, gracious and loving toward you?
3. Are you uncertain about the disposition of the Father’s heart of love toward you? How can reflecting on God’s call and on Calvary help you to see God’s personal and particular love for YOU?
4. What do you fear or worry about? Your finances, your job, your health, your family, the future, etc? How can the truth that you are “kept for Jesus Christ” fill you with faith and hope, regardless of your circumstances or the uncertainty of the future?

My husband and I were visiting on Sunday from the Frederick church to hear CJ give his message. We could not stop talking about the service all day, and are really wanting to hear part two. I’m hoping we can hear it online at some point. What a passion he has for the Lord. I feel truely blessed to have been there. Thank you
By Nancy Nolan on 02/15/2010What an amazing message from God this was and more Grace from our Father to me and I’m sure to many! I am one who habitually think’s ‘hard thoughts’ about God. I never knew exactly why until CJ explained it. Where have I been looking for evidence of God’s love for me? I’ve been looking at me, inside me, all these years. And, as he correctly said, even after all these years, all I see when I look at me is sin, my sin. Past, present, future! But I’m not going to look there any more! I’m going to only look at the cross! It’s the cross where love for me is shown! The evidence is there and it’s objective evidence that God provided through Jesus in His death and resurrection! I’m sure I will turn my gaze back to myself from time to time, but I’ll be able to preach this gospel to myself and turn my eyes back toward the cross and think loving thoughts of Grace and Mercy about God my Father and tears of joy will come…
By Jerry McKamy on 02/16/2010Thank you CJ for the powerful reminder that we must preach the Gospel to ourselves on a daily basis! So grateful for you and your passion to serve this church and many others around the World.
