Acts – Christ's Power in Ordinary People
The book of Acts tells the origin story of the Christian church. It’s a story of supernatural power in ordinary people and extraordinary growth despite overwhelming opposition. But it reveals far more than ancient history. Because these remarkable events are being accomplished by the empowering presence of the risen Christ.
The book of Acts is volume 2 of a 2-part work by Luke. In the Gospel of Luke, he tells “all that Jesus began to do and teach.” (Acts 1:1) In the book of Acts, Luke recounts what Jesus continued to do and teach through the Holy Spirit. And the risen Christ is still with his church by his Spirit today.
When we read Acts, we’re not only reading an ancient origin story, we’re seeing the work of the same Spirit who continues to establish, strengthen and send us today.
