Your kingdom come, your will be done. – Matthew 6:10
As we journey through the book of Daniel this fall, we cling to one core truth: Our God Reigns. He has not slipped from his throne. 2020 has not caught him by surprise. He rules over all things at all times for his glory and the good of his people, despite what circumstances might lead us to believe.
Yet, even though he reigns, each of us is continually faced with questions of allegiance, with our time, money, priorities, relationships. Will we submit to his reign or resist it? Will we be a part of making his kingdom known on earth or will we hide it? The story of Daniel is the story of real people facing those questions in real time. Some submit to God’s reign and experience his blessing. Some resist it and are humbled.
Each day presents opportunities to demonstrate allegiance to Christ or to ourselves. It is no wonder, then, that Jesus teaches us to pray, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
This week, we will come before the throne of God each day and ask that he would reign in and through our lives. Use the Scriptures and prayer points below to help inform your prayers each day, inviting God to extend his good rule and reign in your heart and to the ends of the earth.
