Week of Prayer

To the end of the earth

Our Commission

Be Christ's witnesses to the end of the earth.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. – Acts 1:8

This week, let's ask for power from the Holy Spirit so that we will witness to Christ's resurrection in our  neighborhoods, communities, nation, and to the end of the earth.

Monday – Personal Outreach
Tuesday – Local Outreach
Wednesday – Regional Outreach
Thursday – National Outreach
Friday – World Outreach

Check back daily for new prayer points and thoughts in each of these areas.

Monday

Personal Outreach

[Pray] also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel… that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak. – Ephesians 6:19-20

God calls us and empowers us to be his witnesses. That mission reaches to the ends of the earth, but it starts with us and the people he’s already placed in our lives.
PRAY
  • Following Paul’s example in Ephesians 6, pray for yourself - that God would give you the words to speak and the boldness to speak to those around you who need to hear the mystery of the gospel.
  • Pray for specific people in your life by name who need to hear the message of Jesus - neighbors, coworkers, family and friends.

TUESDAY

Local Outreach

But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. – Jeremiah 29:7

Being faithful witnesses of Jesus means representing him in word and deed. How has God positioned you to be a blessing to this local community?
PRAY
  • For your neighborhood. Consider taking a prayer walk down your street, praying for your neighbors as you walk.
  • For our county council and county executive.

WEDNESDAY

Regional Outreach

Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols. – Acts 17:16

God has placed our church family in one of the most affluent, educated, and influential regions of the country. These good things can easily become idols. And intermixed with that power and influence are many people with great need. The millions of people of our diverse DC metro region desperately need the help and hope of the gospel.
PRAY
  • For the strength and health of other local churches you know of in our region.
  • Pray for the expanse of the gospel through church planting.

THURSDAY

National Outreach

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. – 1 Timothy 2:1–4

This has been a year full of unprecedented challenges for our civic leaders and unrest in society. When Paul instructs Timothy in how to conduct church life in the pagan context of ancient Ephesus, the first thing he calls for is prayer.
PRAY
  • Pray for our elected leaders by name. According to the verse above, intercede for them and give thanks for them.
  • Pray that Christians in our community would be able to lead a “peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.”
  • Pray that our leaders would cultivate communities where all people can “come to the knowledge of the truth.”

Listen to this interview with Good Samaritan Advocates Director Doug Duberstein to hear how God is using this ministry in our region and how you can support it in prayer.

FRIDAY

World Outreach

I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else’s foundation, but as it is written, ‘Those who have never been told of him will see, and those who have never heard will understand.’ – Romans 15:20–21

The scope of the church’s mission extends to “the ends of the earth.” While perhaps only a few will go as Paul did, we can all pray that the gospel would be preached in places where Christ has not yet been named. We can also embrace the opportunity to reach the multitude of nations God has brought here to Montgomery County.
PRAY
  • Pray for the global mission partners we have heard from on Sundays in recent months: Robby in South Asia, Phil and Sarah in China, Paul in Nepal.
  • Pray for Marshall and Tammy with Global Gates
  • Pray that the gospel would spread among the many nations represented in our county.
