Jesus teaches that those who exalt themselves (or allow themselves to be exalted) will be humbled and those who humble themselves will be exalted – and this is particularly so for the church and its leaders.
God hates sin and we should too. The gospel enables us to honestly face our own sin, frees us from finding our identity in our reputation, and assures us that God can use the worst circumstances for his glory and our good.
Psalm 51 does not just instruct us about how to pray; it offers us living and active words of prayer. As David lays bare his heart before God in this poem, we can take these words to heart and do the same.
